Windows 98 SE startup disk
Posted by Lyle Wright on July 16th, 2003

I upgraded from '98 to '98 SE then to Me. Problems
caused me to re-format drive C. In trying to re-install
Me, I had to provide by 98 SE disk. Although recognized,
my screens are bad and some programs can't be loaded
(such as my Kodak picture disk). It appears that 98 SE
must be re-installed first. If that is true, I need (and
don't have) a 98 SE start-up disk. Any help you can
provide will be greatly appreciated! Lyle

Its a mixed bag. Some cases ME has better drivers, some cases doesn't
support hardware that previous 98 did. There's so many exceptions, it comes
down to a toss of the dice.

Upgrading to ME is an exception to my opinion that loading clean is the best
way to go. ME does not do well on old systems when you install clean so it
is probably better to load SE and then upgrade. You can get more opinions
on this if you post to an ME newsgroup. You can make a W98 startup disk
with the Fat32ebd.exe file located on the W98 CD: tools/mtsutil/fat32ebd
