- Windows Update Error 0X800C0008
- Posted by Andrew Chalk on September 20th, 2004
When I tried to install hotfix 823559 on W98 SE and have subsequently
received the follwoing problems:
1) Windows update notifies me on each boot up that there are updates. Then
lists that same hotfix as required. Apparently, Windows doesn't recognize
that it is already installed (it shows up in the list of 'uninstallable'
programs in Control Panel).
2) Subsequently, two new fixes appeared on Windows update - GDI detection
tool and a new Security Update. Now, when I try toi install ANY of the three
outstanding updates I get error 0X800C008 and a screen that says that this
may be bacause the time setting on my computer may be incorrect (it is not).
Any idea how to solve this problem?
Many thanks.

Hi,
1) This is a frequent problem with that update. If KB823559 currently shows
in the list of Add & Remove programs (Control Panel), then uninstall it.
Go to the Windows Update site and select the catalog option. If you don't
see it, add it using personalize. Select Win98 from the list of operating
systems, then locate and download KB823559. This is a standalone version, do
not "run from current location", just save it. Once the download is
finished, double-click the file to install the update.
2) Check the year, not just the month/day.

Many thanks!
