Address Book not visible in Outlook
Posted by Steve Yates on October 18th, 2006

We have one user who has installed the regular CRM desktop client in
Outlook. The CRM interface works, however, she is not able to see any of
the CRM address books when composing a message, etc. The event log shows
the following errors:

Source: MSCRMAddressBook Event ID 6410: One or more Microsoft CRM Address
Book cache files are missing. Address Book synchronization will be
reinitialized. HR=0x0. Context=OnlineSync. Function=COnlineSync:oSync.
Line=531.

Source: MSCRMAddressBook Event ID 6402: An error occurred initializing the
Microsoft CRM Address Book - a subscription could not be created for the
user. Check the user credentials and network connection and restart
Microsoft Outlook. HR=0x80040220. Context=OnlineSync.
Function=COnlineSync::GetSubscription. Line=121.

Try clearing out any existing ABP cache files:
1) Delete the .xml files from userprofile\Application
Data\Microsoft\MSCRM\ABP\Online and Offline\
2) Restart Outlook and wait a few minutes for the ABP lists to be
regenerated

Hi Jason,

That directory is empty, so it's not a corrupted file issue. Any ideas
why the files wouldn't be there?

Thanks,

Hmm. You may need to do a reinstall of the client. Have you already tried
that?

Hi Jason,

Yes, a few times. I believe she's also tried removing and reinstalling
both .NET 1.1 and 2.0 which solved a problem with another user who couldn't
get the client install to finish. She's in the same security group in CRM
as the rest of the staff so that shouldn't be an issue, and she's a local
administrator on her PC.

I know that you said this user is in the same security group as others, but
someone else had a problem with the ABP due to their security role not
having read access for the Queue entity. Can you check that?

Hi Jason,

Sorry for the delay getting back to you. The only role to which this
user belongs has Organization read/create/delete access to Queue. The write
and append to options are set to None Selected, but of course that applies
to all other users in this Role too.
