BU and Role updates impacting system availability
Posted by Scott on July 19th, 2005

I am having the same issue as the one below. The udpate is on a second day.
Is there anyway to halt the updates and run them on the weekend when users
aren't hitting the system? Is there anyway to speed up the updates overnight?

Thanks Scott

Yeah, I have a client with over 300k Accounts & Contacts and simple role
changes
take 8+ hours to propogate. When you create a BU, you're actually creating a
bunch of roles along with it and I suspect it isn't smart enough to try to
combine the updates so it's going through 1 role at a time.

I don't think anyone will be sad to see the SecurityDescriptor disapear into
the
sunset....

Thanks Matt,
In C:\Program File\Microsoft CRM\Server\Bin there is a file SSPCQC.bin
that has a create date of this morning... So it sure looks like this
server is continuing, for the fourth day now, to process basic BU
changes... I'm so glad that the securitydescriptor is gone in
CRM.next....

There are hundreds of thousands of records in Account, Contact,
Contract Line Items, Opportunities and Leads...

I suspect one of the issues may be that multiple changes were made,
moving bu's back and forth until they got it right... Lesson for all:
make BU or Role changes very carefully, and hopefully on Friday
afternoon...

Thanks Matt,

Dave

If you contact MBS there is a patch to speed up security updates.

Actually John,
The security update patch will slow down the updates! (Which is a
good thing.) What it appears to do is put a "governor" on the update
process so that it will not take more than 25% of the CPU. It still is
quite a drain on resources, but at least it won't completely shut your
server down... (My client was the one who unfortunately first
discovered this bug, was shut down for two days because of a relatively
minor role change, and inspired this patch.) Anybody who is using 1.2
should be using this patch, so that you can somewhat insulate
yourselves from the effects of role changes... And always do them on
Friday afternoon! HTH,

Dave
