Connection port for CRM?
Posted by andyo on November 5th, 2004

If I want an external computer to connect to the CRM through a different port
than 80, how do I make that work?
I went into IIS and reset the port from 80 to 7000 and then made a mapping
on my router on port 7000 which mapped to the internal address of the CRM,
but I can't seem to reach it from outside.
I can still connect through Internet Explorer if I put in
http://computer.com:7000, but I can't do it from outside.
Is there something I'm missing that I have to change so the CRM will listen
on port 7000?

What's the error message.
Have you defined a DNS entry so that the http address you specify outside
can actually translate to the external IP address of your server?
There should not be anything else to configure that is CRM specific.

One thing to note MS CRM is not secure!!! You'll be pass all that information over Plain/Text...

You should only run through a VPN connect not LIVE on the internet... You'll probably get hit with a worm in less than a week or so.

Not if you run the CRM web application using "https" with a digital certificate (which is very easy to setup for the CRM web site), which is the recommended method over the LIVE 'internet'.
