Couple of issues with contracts after upgrade
Posted by Lars-Erik on February 18th, 2008

Hi!

We have a couple of "why's" after upgrading to 4.0.

In 3.0 we had a contract template using time allotment. When creating
contracts based on it, the initial allotments field was recommended, not
required. In 4.0 the field is required in both templates.
Is there some new setting on the template to decide whether the field is
required?

Another thing is that in 3.0 the customers mailing and visiting address was
possible to select and map to the contract, now it seems only "more
addresses" are possible to automatically insert in the contract.
Seems a bit weird if you have to customize the account UI to include "more
addresses" if you want to be able to select the record addresses in related
entities.

Any help appreciated.

Hi Lars-Erik and sailaja.

Thanks for posting in. This is Ken in Online Partner Support.

I'd like to confirm that what do you mean by initial allotments field,
customer mailing and visiting address.
Both in CRM 3.0 and CRM 4.0. we don't have such field on contract. Are
those are customized fields?
The original fields like Contract Address, Contract StartDate, etc are not
changed.

Ken

Right, I'm sorry.

I mean the totalallotments attribute of the contractline entity.

Further, I'm pretty sure the address1_* and address2_* attributes of account
could be selected as shipping and billing addresses when creating orders,
invoices _and_ contracts? (At least I can't remember customizing such
behavior in CRM 3.0.. :S )

Hi Lars-Erik.

Thanks for the reply.

The totalallotments attribute which is shown as 'Total Cases/Minutes' on
Contract Line form is not recommended but system required in both CRM 3.0
and CRM 4.0. Therefore there is no change about it.

Regarding to shipping address and billing address. you are able to select
address1_*, address2_* and more addresses in both contract and invoice in
both CRM 3.0 and CRM 4.0. Therefore, there is no change about this as well.

Kind Regards,
Ken

You're right, I can't reproduce the behavior on either of my test instances.
One of my users however insists that we could omit total cases when we used
3.0. I'll have to dig into his mind to find out what was acutal.

I can do this on my 3.0 test instance, but not on 4.0. I guess we have an
issue then.
We have modified our forms to not show address name. Is address name
required for the lookup to work?

Hi Lars-Erik.

Thanks for the update.
Yes, The name of the address is needed to be found in the lookup. It is not
required attribute though. While In additional addresses, it is required.

Thanks for your follow-up.
I just verified we can pick the addresses if there's data in the name fields.

Thanks again.
