- CRM 4.0 Install Issue
- Posted by Ken Compter on January 19th, 2008
I am trying to install CRM 4.0 on SBS2003R2 running SQL 2005 with sp2
(9.0.3042) but I get an error "Setup requires SQL Server Reporting Services
2005 Hotfix for role creation on SQL Reporting Service SP2 Workgroup edition
at the specified Reporting Services Report Server
http://localhost/ReportServer." I cannot find this hotfix anywhere.
Has anyone had this problem? Where can I find this hotfix?
thanks,

I spent hours fighting with it...
Go here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936305
Click on the link to request the update (why it isn't available is
beyond me since they require it for CRM 4). They will send you an
email with the support service number. ((800) 936-5700 - you may be
able to just call them straight away). Use option 0 to talk to a live
person. They send you to the advanced routing department who will
email you a link and password for the update. Once I called it only
took about 10-15 minutes to explain things and the email link was
there immediately.
MS CRM 4 looks pretty good so far... worth the hassle.

The same issue applies to CRM 3.0 and the solution is the same.
Request for support hotfix - it is 103 MB file and after then all works
fine.

Well i got the hotfix, but when I attempted to unzip it, it said it was part
of a mulitdisk set and to insert the last disk. But I only received 1 zip
file. The email with the hotfix provided a password, but no password was
asked for.

I encountered a similar problem, but with totally different error. It was
also solved by installation of this hotfix.
When the CRM4 installer went through the System Requirements page, it was
failing on Reporting Services with the error "Setup failed to validate
specified Reporting Services Report Server".
Note that I had already verified the Reporting Services URL was correct by
testing in a browser (as per other posts and the Installing Guide).
The log showed the following error:
10:35:10| Info| Check ReportingUrlValidator: Success
10:37:30| Error| System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to
an instance of an object.
at
Microsoft.Crm.Reporting.ReportServer.CreateCrmRepo rtingException(Exception
innerException, String methodName, Int32 errorCode)
at Microsoft.Crm.Reporting.ReportServer.FindItemByNam e(String searchRoot,
String name, ItemTypeEnum itemType)
at Microsoft.Crm.Reporting.ReportServer.validateRSUrl ()
at Microsoft.Crm.Reporting.ReportServer.validateServe r()
at
Microsoft.Crm.Setup.Server.ExistingRSValidator.Int ernalCheck(IDictionary
parameters)
10:37:30| Error| Check ExistingRSValidator : Failure: Setup failed to
validate specified Reporting Services Report Server http://crm4/reportserver.
Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
This problem was also resolved by installing the hotfix as per KB935922.
Operating environment was Server 2003 R2 enterprise edition, SP2.
Hopefuly this might help others that encouter the same error.

Tim

I have the same problem. Install fails with 1 error.
Setup failed to validate Reporting Services Server http://SERVER01/ReportServer.
Error: The request failed with HTTP status 400: Bad Request. The
request failed with http status 400: Bad Request.
I've installed the hotfix but I'm still getting this error. Can
someone shed some light?
