CRM installation 90-day trial (X13-018486) installation problem
Posted by JeffreySJ on June 20th, 2007

Greetings,

I have been struggling with implementing the trial edition of CRM so I'd
like to ask for some help.
1. I have installed Windows Server 2003 Enterprised 32 bit on an Intel Dell
Box.
2. I have make it a domain server unto itself.
3. I have started the DNS server.
4. I have installed the Microsoft SQL server 2005 without issues.
5. I downloaded the trial and burned a CD. The CD was verified good by the
burner program. I used the CD X13-018486 image.
6. The first time I attempted to install the program and after I entered
the demo license key, several missing (and expected) additions were
successfully added. After that finished the following error comes up, and
each successive attempt to install the program the same error will come up
right after entering the the license key.

Action Microsoft.Crm.Setup.Common.Analyzer+CollectAction failed. Error
performing inpage operation.

If you press the ignore button the following occurs before the program
aborts closed:

Data ProductInfo.InstallState is not available.

I have been unable to locate the installation log. If it would be helpful,
would someone tell me where to find it?

Thanks,

Jeffrey

Jeffrey,

I am no CRM expert, but I have worked with it for the past few months
while interning at NDSU. From your description of the problem, you
are tying to install Active Directory, SQL and CRM on the same server.
Now I would review the Implementation Guide to be sure (see page 34 of
the pdf for single server deployments), but my understanding is that
you will need to run Windows Small Business Server 2003 in order to
stack all the apps on one box, or use a separate box for CRM.

You can obtain a copy of the Implementation Guide here (it's a fun
read - trust me):
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Again, I could be mistaken, but CRM needs to be installed on a machine
separate from the domain controller. In our setup, we have an old Dell
(pentium 4, 512mb ram)dekstop box for Active Directory, and a Dell
PowerEdge 2600 server for CRM and SQL.

I have successfully impletment MSCRM on a single server including AD (domain
controller), SQL, Exhchange and CRM platform.

Mind you this was my playground server so would not recommend if as a
production solutions.

Did you install SQL Server on the default instance or named instance?

The problem resolution really was embarrasing - there was an undetected
smudge on the installation disk. After I cleaned off the disk, the
installation continued normally. Thanks for your ideas though - I
appreciate the responses very much.
