- CRM installation problems
- Posted by SiEBEN Innovative Solutions on August 7th, 2003
I am new to MS CRM. MS CRM is installed on a Windows 2000 Server SP4 and
co-exists with SQL Server 2000 SP3a. The DC is Windows 2003 Server with AD
in 2003 mode. For licenses I have used the "MSDN Subscriber" organization
and added them successfully in Deployment Manager console. I face the
following problems:
- I log on as domain administrator on the CRM Server and in the "Deployment
Manager" console under "User Manager" I can't add users because I "dont have
sufficient privileges to run user manager". Is this normal? What should I
do?
- I have noticed that in AD Console an "MSDN Subsriber" group has been added
with several security groups inside. Although I add a specific user in the
same security groups as the domain administrator, when I try to access MS
CRM from this specific user I receive the following message (with
administrator log-on it works fine):
"User Access Error The logged on user is either not a Microsoft CRM
user, is disabled in the system, has not been assigned any security roles,
or has not been assigned a license. "
What should I do?
Thanks.

First of all, undo any changes you made to Active directory. Changing this
manually will cause any number of other problems. CRM keeps it's own copy
of a lot of this data and if they aren't in sync, it doens't like it.
From what you have said, I think you missed the step of logging into the web
client and assigning a license to the admin user. This needs to be done
before you can access Deployment manager.

Thanks, you are right about assigning licenses to users.
Although I assigned to my domain administrator a license, still I can't
access Deployment manager.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Is CRM security service running?
- Posted by SiEBEN Innovative Solutions on August 8th, 2003
Yes it is running,
and BTW this is another problem I have: After server restart the specific
service fails to start and I have to start manually.

When CRM & SQL are on the same box, you need to re-register the security
service so that is is dependant on the SQL Service. I believe the syntax
for this is:
crmsecurityservice.exe -u -r
This is in the implementation guide, but it has the wrong EXE name. In the
IG it says it is mscrmsecurityservice.exe.
Something to double check:
- Are you logged in with the same user that you were logged in as when you
installed?
- Is that the same user that you assigned the license to?
If the answer is yes, then I fear you may have to uninstall & re-install.
When you changed AD, you may have changed something that is causing this
issue. To be honest, since you haven't been able to get past this step,
that may be the best course of action, just to be safe. This product is
very sensitive and we have all seen something small like this cause issues.
If you do uninstall, you will need to manually drop the databases and delete
the org unit that was created in AD before re-installing.

Hi,
I have the same problem. You have to be logged into the machine as the user
who installed CRM in the first place. I made the mistake of installing it
logged in as myself and now whenever we wnat to run the Deployment Manager
we have to log the machine off and log back in as me.

Andy,
You should be able to run deployment manager from any user that has been
assigned the System Admin security role.
