I logged in with administrative privileges and did some
minor forms customizations (from the settings/system
customization menu). I saved them but they are not visible
in CRM... any ideas?

you need to run deployment manager and then publish the changes. After that
open a command prompt on the crm server and do an iisreset command to
restart the crm web server

look in this newsgroup for a lot of messages around this subject
