- Documentation on CRM entities and attributes
- Posted by Jean Drainville on February 25th, 2008
I want to do a complete documentation for my customer.
I’m presently in the Account-Attributes-Customization View.
I want to integrate these attributes characteristics in my document (Name,
Display Name, Type and Description).
How can I do that? I’m not able to do a “Copy-Paste” from this Form to
Excel or Word. Also, how may I have the PickList Values to integrate them in
the documentation?
In fact, the best solution for me would be a document that would include the
merge of 3 specific information :
1- the information contains in http://servername/sdk/list.aspx
2- the information contains in Account-Attributes-Customization View -
attributes characteristics
3- the values of the PickList when appropriate
With http://servername/sdk/list.aspx, I’m able to do a “Copy-Paste” but I
don’t have the description of the fields like it is presented in the form
Account-Attributes-Customization View - attributes characteristics.
And I didn’t find where I can do a “Copy-Paste” of the PickList values.

Hi Jean,
Please contact me at
michael.remove-including-the-dot.hoehne@stunnware.remove-except-the-com. I'm
working on something that may help you, but it's not finished. However it
would be great for me to have someone testing it and if it solves your
problem as well, then we both may profit from it.

Jean,
I have a custom SRS report that shows you everything you're asking for. It's
only compatible with CRM 3.0, but it shows you:
1.) Schema Name
2.) Display Name
3.) Data Type
4.) Length (when necessary)
5.) Boolean and Picklist string values (with a Show/Hide feature)
6.) Parameters (optional) for Entity, System/Custom
it was arranged as an internal report, and thus the implementation is
somewhat manual, and it is unsupported in that it adds a new table to the
metabase and runs off of stored procs. So, if this sounds too dicey, I'd go
with Michael's solution-- which will probably be look slicker than mine :-)
But it is completely finished and tested and it works like a charm.

Jean - If you are running Office 2007 there is a cool add-in MS CRM
documentation generator available for download from the code-plex website.
http://www.codeplex.com/CRMDocumentation
Allows you to document attributes, entities, picklists and any scripts.
Hope this helps.
