We have a SKU that is a free item as part of a promotion. In Opportunity
Product we get error because the amount is $0.00. There is no extended
price written. How can we enter a product that doesn't cost anything?

What is the error message that you are getting. I am able to add an
opportunity product where the product amount is 0.00.

Here's what I did. I created a free SKU product under products, then
set the price of the product to 0.00, then set Price List Item Amount
to 0.00, then create a new opportunity, add the free product that I
created, and it works.

Can you please provide more details on what message that you getting?
Do you have any callout/plug-in that's in place that's associated to
opportunity product?
