How to register 8-CD "CRM Sales Advisor" Kit
Posted by Myron Johnson on August 26th, 2005

Hello,

I recently registered as an MBS Partner. After discussing the "CRM Sales
Advisor" program, MBS sent me an 8-CD CRM Package that was said to be a
five-license kit for demonstration purposes.

I can't figure out how to register it to get a License Number. I've
successfully registered my MS Partner Action Pack CRM Package, but that one
came with a usable 25-digit Product Key. THIS SET has no Product Key.

Disk One has a yellow sticker that says:

"Volume Licensing Customer. To use this product you will need a Business
Solutions Registration Key. In order to obtain it, you must register this
product at:
http://www.microsoft.com/businesssol...sbregistration

Please note that to obtain your key, you will need to have your License
Agreement details. If you do not have these details, please contact your
reseller to obtain them prior to registering.
Unlicensed Software - Illegal without separate license from Microsof
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've tried numerous times to register it on the MBS CRM Registration Web
Site, but, with no Volume License Number and no Open License Number, I'm
running out of options.

I've spent a week corresponding with VOICE support, to no avail. So far, I
can't seem to reach anybody helpful at the MBS office in North Dakota, who
sent me this package. The paperwork says the package was odred by: VOICE
Services and MBSORDER.

Anybody know how to register this CRM package?

Thanks!

I am also under exact same situation. Received the software 2 months ago, had
problem getting the registration key, In fact I email the support; they told
me that it has been allocated to a CRM license specialist. They asked me all
the screen shots. We exchanged some emails thereafter, but in end nothing
happened, the support told me to search in PartnerSource. (PartnerSource,
Where ???). That’s it. I am extremely frustrated.

I hope it doesn't take months to resolve this. I spent a couple more
frustrating hours today on the phone trying to reach a human being at MBS in
Fargo, North Dakota. In the end, I was redirected to 800-456-0025, Option 2,
which is a Sales organization in Fargo. The receptionist said she'd put me on
the "Urgent Callback" list. Now it's the weekend again.

One thing that had me stumped for a while was the 25-digit "Product Key" on
the back of Disk Seven of my package. I was SURE this was the Product Key for
the package. Finally, I realized this was only the Product Key for the "CRM
Integration for Great Plains" disk.

There are only three ways to register this package, that I can see.
1) You need an Open License with 15-digit Authorization number and 8-digit
License number (I have neither).
2) You need a Volume License 7-digit Enrollment Number (which I don't have).
This is PROBABLY the number needed for this disk set, since Disk One mentions
that this set is for "Volume Licensing Customers".
3) You need a 25-digit Product Key. (Which I don't have)

Well, it took a a couple of weeks to find an answer, but an MBS
representative gave me an answer about registering the 8-CD CRM kit that I'd
received from MBS. This information didn't come with the kit, nor in any
emails. Rather, the Welcome Letter states, "By Signing up as a Software
Advisor, your organization is entitled to five seats of Microsoft CRM
Professional for demonstration purposes."
----------------
MBS statement:

"What you have received is the MBS CRM Welcome Kit. This kit doesn not
include any licenses and cannot be registered. This is for demonstration
purposes only. The PID located on the 7th Cd is a genereic PID beginning with
FM888. The Demo Company: Adventure Works Cycle with the registration key of
8QULY9UJ3165WMT5PEFZK.

You should have received something that states:
"If you are doing a test or lab deployment and are planning to use the
Microsoft CRM Sample Database, then enter Adventure Works Cycle for the
organization name. For the test environment (the organization Adventure
Works Cycle) the following key is acceptable: 8QULY9UJ3165WMT5PEFZK."

Because this is for the demo company there is nothing to register, you would
use the reg keys that I have provided to open up the demo company. "

GI,

I'm glad I was able to help. It's too bad we both wasted a lot of time
trying to figure out how to use these CRM disks. The instructions that came
with them are severely misleading.

Good luck on your CRM Exams. I'm thinking of getting CRM-certfied myself
after I finish off my (final) MSCE exam this month.

The install key for the sample data with Adventure Works Cycle is documented in
the Implementation Guide. There is a seperate section on this topic and each
section of the IG that outlines the install procedures references this.
