- How to store Referrer for Lead/Opportunity

Hi,
I launched a campaign where in I give $100 gift certificate to my
existing customers when they get me more business by bringing in new
customers.
Now, I get a new lead/opportunity through my exising customer "XYZ
company" in response to my campaign. So I have to send $100 gift
certificate to XYZ company. Now, my question is, where do I store
referrer for this lead/opportunity?
In short I want to figure out which customers gave me more business in
response to a my campaign so that I can send them the gift certificate.
But there is no way in crm to track the referrer for a
lead/opportunity.
Can someone suggest me a workaround?

Possibly use Customer Relationships
Create new customer relationship between Opportunities and Contacts called
"Referrer"
Then link the referring contact to the opp using the Referrer customer
relationship
