- IE7 using 80% CPU when opening CRM pages
- Posted by Matt M on November 3rd, 2006
Just installed Internet Explorer 7 to test it out with CRM and I'm having one
issue. Whenever I open up a Contact record, Opportunity record, etc... IE 7
will take up 80% of the CPU for a good 10 seconds. During that time, the
window is unusable. My machine is the first one I've tested this on.
Has anyone else seen this?

Yes I also get this.
I would like to roll out IE7, but this problem will stop this from
happening!

I seem to have fixed the issue by taking our CRM URL out of Trusted Sites and
putting it under Local Intranet in IE.

Mark and Matt,
I recomend you use intranet sites. IE7 has several phishing and other
security features which can delay untrusted or intranet sites. You can
modify group policy to set the intranet sites by default or make registry
entries to do this.

Jeff,
Thanks for the suggestion.
I have tried this and it seems a lot better now.
However it still seems a bit 'sticky' at times compared to IE6.
I will continue to run with IE7 for a while before rolling it out to
the other users.
Thanks again.

After a few days I have found IE7 to be unusable with CRM 3.0.
It constantly hangs, sometimes recovering after an extended period,
other times never.
I have gone back to IE6.

Yes, I experience this almost EVERY DAY, and it start to dissappoint
me. I will try to put in the intranet site, rather than trusted site
(although by logical think, trusted site should be higher precedence
than intranet site).
Another problem I have which I posted to forum before, but not so much
respond:
For example accounts entity, when
I double click on the grid, it will pop up new window. In IE7, the
title will be http://<crmserver>?id=<GUID> - Title, for example:
http://crmserver?id={50059E85-1A6B-DB11-9915-00145E301893} - Account:
<Account Name>. If a lot of browser windows have been opened, Windows
XP can group all of this window in the task bar, but the title appear
in the task bar is just http://crmserver?id={50059E85-1A6B-DB11-9915..,
which is useless for the user to determine which window they want to
open. Previously, in IE6, the title is just http://crmserver - Account:
<Account Name>, which is still enough to be displayed in the task bar.
Any workaround for this in IE7?

Just to add some fun to this: I have been having the same problem with IE7
since its release. The application is fine untill i open any record then the
CPU goes to 100% and never comes back.
Now for the fun, i have 2 completely seperate CRM installations in house
here and the problem only seems to happen when connecting to one server and
not the other. I had certainly thought this would be a client side problem
but now Im not so sure.

Im still having this problem and have not seen anyone come up with a solution
yet. I hate to burn a support incident on it as well.
If you are after IE7 for the tabbed browsing I can offer up a non-supported
options.
Firefox and the IETabs add-on (easily located with Google).
I do have some issues with users when they activate or revise quotes but
thats about the only real issue i have come up against. Still I would rather
have a supported IE7 working.
