Import tool fails?
Posted by sinha on September 9th, 2003

I am trying to import leads into the MSCRM system and it
fails. System error import is exiting...
Has anybody successfully tried importing using this tool?
If it works, Can it be modified to import Opportunities as
well?

Have you read the CDF Guide? Out of experience I can say that it does work,
but you can't assume it just takes a finger snap.

Found this on PSource about the system error ...

Issue

Error - "A system error occurred while the data was being
imported. The import wizard will now close." occurs when
importing leads and contacts into Microsoft CRM.

Potential Cause

You are trying to import from a different domain.

Resolution

In order to successfully import from a file for Leads or
Contacts, you must be logged into Microsoft CRM on a
machine that is a part of the same domain in which
Microsoft CRM Server is installed.
********
Another Potential Cause:
The Microsoft CRM Web site is using a port other than Port
80.

Resolution
Check to make sure that you are installing Microsoft CRM
to the default Web site and are using Port 80.

1. Go to Start | Programs | Administrative Tools |
Internet Services Manager.

2. Expand until you see the Microsoft CRM Version 1.0 Web
site.

3. Right-click on this Web site and choose Properties.

4. On the General tab, you will see the port the Web site
is using as well as the IP address.

Note - For Microsoft CRM version 1.0, loading the CRM
server on a port other than Port 80 is not supported.

Also, out of the box the import tool can't be modified to
import Opportunities. Microsoft offers the Data Migration
Framework for one-time data imports for Opportunties, but
Scribe Migrate might be a better option to consider for
importing Opportunities and other Objects.

Hope this helps...
