Importing Accounts and Contacts using Data Migration Manager
Posted by The Office Guy on April 30th, 2008

Hi,

I imported the following in this order:

1. Accounts
2. Contacts (mapped Account Name to Parent Customer which was imported
earlier)

Is there a way to identify the contact as a primary contact during Contacts
import so that Account is updated with a primary contact?

Thanks.

You map lastname of Account source file with Primary Contact of
Contact source file then select Last Name of Primary Contact in the
next screen.
Do not know if it made any sense to you.

Sorry little correction. Read "with Primary Contact of Account Entity"
in stead of "with Primary Contact of Contact source file"

I am not sure I understand.

Note that contacts do not exist when you import accounts. So, lookup from
Accounts to Contacts will generate an error because the contact does not
exist. In other words, the account needs to exist when importing contacts
associated with the account and the contact needs to exist to update primary
contact when importing accounts! Can you point me to detailed steps if this
could be done?

Thanks.

Okay. I got it to work. You have to add both files (accounts and contacts) to
the migration and point the lookup to each other.

Thanks!

Office Guy,

I am going through the import process of customers (accounts) and contacts.
Struggling.. You mention below that "..mapped Account Name to Parent Customer
which was imported earlier".

Not sure I have the correct import order. Is it accounts then contacts? How
do I establish the "link" between Customer name and Contact Parent Customer??

Thanks a lot!
