crm 1.2 is not compatible with sql 2005.

crm 1.2 is compatible with SQL 2000 sp3+
crm 3.0 is compatible with SQL 2000 sp4 and/or SQL 2005

What was the SQL agent message you got ? The most likely are either that it
is not running, or relate to the service account it uses, either of which can
be resolved prior to installing CRM with SQL 2000
