Hi,
Do i need to have exchange and SQL run on the same server as the CRM
package? Is Office 2003 compatible? Would appreciate some guideline to
install CRM on a machine that doesn't have exchange and/or SQL running,
instead, the exchange and sql database services run on a different machine
within the same forest. Does the CRM server need to have Active Directory
Installed?
Thanks,
Ash

Microsoft CRM needs to be installed on a server that is part of a windows
2000 or now 2003 Active Directory enabled domain.
SQL and exchange do not need to be on the same machine. In fact CRM can work
happily with exchange but of course does require SQL 2000

There are many different possibilities for the structure
of the impementation, which are discussed in detail in the
implementation guide, which is on the documentation CD.
As well as architectures, other recomendations, including
specs for the boxes, and at what number of users you
should move up to the next configuration.
In summary, AD should not be installed on the same machine
as CRM server, unless using SBS.
CRM Mail Router needs to be on the same box as Exchange.
If you are using 2 servers put CRM Server and SQL Server,
and AD, Exchange and CRM Router together.
If using 3, move AD onto it's own.
If using 4, everything separate, except CRM Router and
Exchange.
The Sales Client for Outlook cannot be installed on the
same machine as the CRM server.
Having said that, my demo machine is running everything on
one laptop, (not using SBS) with only 512MB RAM. It does
work, although it is slow, with only one active user.
Which version of MSCRM are you using? I am still using
Office XP, as I did not want to risk running 2003 on the
2000 platform, with everything else.
Thanks
Gill
