- Installing Crystal Reports for MSCRM
- Posted by Ben on October 5th, 2005
Guys,
Can any of you please tell me why when I try and install Crystal that
came with the CRM disks it tells me i have version 9.2.0 currently
installed and must upgrade to 9.2.2 before i can continue. When in
actuallity i don't have a copy of either installed!!! I have tried on
the CRM server it's self, my laptop, and a brand new desktop that isn't
even on the network.
Getting very frustrated now, is it something simple that i'm missing??
Kind regards and thanks in advance

Do NOT install Crystal Reports on your CRM server! You can very easily hose
your Crystal services doing this.
You need to purchase Crystal Reports 9.2.2 from Business Decisions. Contact
them directly in order to get the correct version. Install it on a client
machine and then install the Crystal Reports Enhancements for CRM from the CD
onto the client machine (this creates an easy to use connection between
Crystal and the CRM databases).

Thanks Matt, I only tried the server as a last resort and thankfully it
wouldnt work either.
Just out of interest what is the Crystal CD that comes with it for
then?? Just for the Enhancements??

Yes, the CD lets Crystal see the Microsoft CRM database in a usable way.
Otherwise you would need to create a connection directly to SQL and try to
make sense of the lowest level tables in CRM. (CRM uses a meta-layer to
present the data, and this is what you will be connecting to with the Crystal
Enhancements.)
By the way, the next version of CRM, while still supporting Crystal, will be
using SQL Reporting Services - much more powerful and, of course, a Microsoft
product.
