Invoice History for Contracts
Posted by Mark Braithwaite on September 15th, 2006

Hi

We have entered our contracts into CRM and we need to bill our customers on
a monthly basis. We have activated the contracts and invoiced the clients
however we are unable to locate the invoice history for billed contracts.

We would appreciate it if someone could please explain where invoice history
on contracts can be viewed and why an invoice is not generated automatically
once the contract is activated?

Thanks

Sorry, but invoicing the contract to activate it does not actually produce
an invoice. It just activates it.

Yes, I know. It sucks.

Thanks for your reply

Okay so there is no automatic creation of an invoice when a contract is
invoiced contract however is there a way to view invoice history of contracts.

Thanks

Mark

There isn't. The only thing that invoicing a contract does is activate it -
no other record is created to view.
If you manually create an Invoice in CRM for the contract then you could
drill into the Account from the contract header and view the invoices
against the Account.

You could also look at www.c360.com as they do a relationship explorer
addon. I think that you could probably create a realtionship between
invoice and contract with this and so be able to view the invoices directly
from the contract.

Hi Mark,

We previously experience the issue that you are having, and as stated
"Invoiced" is in no way connected to actual invoices - but it does have some
other funky implications you should be aware of. We ended up abandoning
Contracts altogether as they introduced one frustration after another. Once
a Contract is invoiced (and it can't be used until it is invoiced) it becomes
read only and there is nothing that you can do that will allow you to make
any changes to it. You would need to cancel and then recreate it.
