- Lead to Opportunity data lost
- Posted by Alan Sidles on August 11th, 2004
We have found that when converting a lead to an opportunity we are loosing
the data collected under Activities and Notes. One of our Sales people lost a
lot of valuable information as a result. Is there a way to recover this
information, and more importantly, how can we prevent this from happening
going forward?

Alan
I think the issue you are seeing is that when you convert a Lead to an
Opportunity the activities and Notes to not get transferred across. This
information stays with the Lead record. If you look at the newly created
Opportunity record you will see a field called Originating Lead. You can
click this to open the original Lead and view the original Notes and
Activities.

John,
You nailed it. Can you say "UBD"? My sales people will be very pleased.
Thank you for your assistance. Obviously, time for some training....

Microsoft have stated on the tech article for this issue that if you think
it should be changed ket them know. I guess this functionality may change in
the next release. After all its seems crazy to be opening an old record to
review data etc.

You'll be happy to know that this functionality is already checked into the
code base for v2.0 and working.

It would be better if they issued a patch to fix this problem or a service
pack to upgrade the things that have been left out of this version.
I have a lot of grumbling from my sales team about the many and varied
clicks that are required to get simple information, and not having valuable
sales notes transfer forward is a big grumble !

hmmmm
wonder when you convert a lead to an opportunity whether it would fire a
callout event such as changestatus etc..if so you could either reparent any
of the leads notes to be owned by the opportunity or create copies..

Hi there, our sales team is saying the same thing. there is a lot of
information that is gathered and noted in the notes tab and when you convert
the lead and loose all the notes, it is very frustrating. So what I hear you
guys saying that right now there is not a current fix for this problem?

Hi,
We are having the same issue. We have a team which works with the Leads and
once converted, assigns them to a sales person. Not only do the Notes and
Activities not convert but the Lead it not re-assigned or shared with the new
owner so they cannot even click on the Originating Lead. This is a
significant issue for us. Looking through the posts, I cannot find an answer
except to use workflow or custom programming - I agree is should be something
CRM should do automatically.
