Locked Out of CRM 1.2
Posted by Microsoft on January 16th, 2004

Hi all,

I've run into a problem with CRM 1.2. I'm running it on Windows Server 2003
with Exchange 2003 and SQL Server 2000 on the same machine.

I had it running successfully in a test environment with myself as the only
user (Note: I assigned licenses to two users then later removed the license
from the second and thought I disable them). I was configuring the system
and noticed what seemed to be the disabled user, still enabled. So I
selected the user and disabled him. I promptly lost access to CRM. This
includes accessing it over the web, locally and over the intranet, with the
Outlook Sales module and from the Deployment Manager on the local machine.
Now, I'm locked out.

This is what I've tried and read.

- I've logged in as the user that installed CRM on the server.

- I've logged in as the user that was assigned a license, which is different
from the user that installed it. I never assigned a license to the user that
installed it.

- I've logged in as the user that the CRM services start as.

- All the users mentioned above are Domain Admins.

- I've ensured the CRM Security service is started.

- When starting the Deployment Manager, it says 'Snap-in failed to
initialize' three times.

- The event log returns three errors for every Snap-in failed... message
from above (total of 9 every time I try to start Deployment Manager).

- When trying to access via the web or through Outlook, I get:
User Access Error
The system could not log you on. This could be because: you are not a
Microsoft CRM user, your user record has been disabled in the system, you
have not been assigned any security roles, or you have not been assigned a
license. For more information, contact your system administrator.

- After trying to access from the web, the event log returns the errors
mentioned above in addition to this one:

Okay.. I think that's all. Please help! The only thing I can think of is
something in the database or reinstalling. I don't know how to assign a
license to anyone because I can't get in to any place that allows me to do
it.

Thanks much,
Mark

Can anyone help at all? Any suggestions or possibilities?

I've since tried to change some of the user information in the database,
setting all users to not disabled, changing some other information, but all
with no effect. The only thing I'm left with is reinstalling, but I'm afraid
to go away from this with no solution. What's to say that we won't use CRM
for a month or two and get data in there and then have something else
mysterious happen that locks us out again? My confidence has not been
inspired thus far.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Mark, MBS Support is probably your best bet for this.
