Mark,
I am not an expert on the CRM Service Calendar, but maybe I can shed some
light on it.
The Service Calendar is used to give a visual means to schedule and view
avialability of CRM Resources and is only available in the Web Client
(http://<YourClientName>). CRM Resources can be Users or
Facility/Equipment. This calendar tracks, Service Appointments and Crm
Appointments. The Service and CRM Appointment can be synchronized to the
Outlook Client (show up as appointments in the Outlook Calendar), but that
is where the tie to Outlook ends. There are may buttons and switches on
this page and it performs a significant amount of work (yes it slows down
when there are many resources and appointments).
CRM Resources, users or facility/equipment, have calendars, by default the
when a resource is created, the calendar is set to 24 hours x 7 days. The
calendar can be accessed by opening the resource page in the CRM Web
Application and clicking "Work Hours".
Sorry, I am not familiar with the "Work As" functionality. I thope the info
above helps.
Thanks,
Arne

We have a Dynamic User interface, one that limits what the user can access
based on their Security Role. That said, another area to explore is the
Security Role of the User. Specifically privileges located under the
Service Management Tab. CRM has a role created the "Schedule Manager" role
specifically to use with the Service Calendar. For the Calendar entity, the
Schedule Manager has full privileges on Create, Read, Write, Delete, Append
and AppendTo.
A SalesPerson is not supposed to be able to see or operate the Calendar, and
it does not appear for them,.I believe it is due to fact the default
privileges do not include Calendar Create, Read, Write or Delete.
It would be worthwhile to investigate whether or not the user you want to
use the Service Calendar, has privileges similar to the CRM Schedule
Manager.
To find the Security Role the user has, open the user and click on Roles in
the left navigation pane. Double-click on the role to see the privileges
assigned to that role.
To find the Security Roles for the Business Unit, in the web application
only;
Open the Web Client as System Administrator
Click on Settings in the left navigation pane
Click on Business Unit Settings
Click on Security Roles
Double-click on the Role to View/Modify.
Hope this helps.

I don't recall offhand about the Service Calendar but there are other
things (KB) which are not visible in Outlook. Since Outlook uses IE to show
the web pages, if you start Outlook first it's settings take precedence. If
you connect using different URLs (http://crm and http://server:5555) with
each the cookies won't ever conflict.

I have found that if you clear your internet history and restart internet
explorer, you will again be able to see the service calendar.
Hope that helps.

You cannot view the settings in the web browser while outlook is open. I've
heard there is a workround but cannot find it in the news groups. The service
calender is "plugged-in" to your outlook calender when using outlook. Again
if you close out look this will be visable in the web browser. Definitley a
short coming in CRM.

I just posted this message in another thread but it applies here too
(because nobody seems to notice the solution posted by Steve Yates on
Dec 8):
The problem exists because both Outlook and your webbrowser use the
same cookie (and Outlook does not have the settings feature).
If you make 1 alias for your CRM server to use in outlook and use the
original URL in your webbrowser (or the other way arround of course),
the problem should be solved because they will both use different
cookies.
Hope this helps.
