Migrating from ACT!
Posted by Aaron Ackerman on August 12th, 2003

I have setup CRM and am preparing to migrate out data from ACT! using the
CRM Data Migration Framework. Has anyone run into any travails migrating
from ACT! that I should know about? Any shortcuts?

I just used Scribe to migrate 4,000 account and 6,000 contacts in addition
to about 12,000 activities and I highly recommend it. They have migration
templates for ACT! so you almost don't have to do anything. Those templates
alone will same you several hours of preparation which is well worth the
expense in my opinion.

Really agree with Jeremy. Do you have duplicate
problems? Scribe addresses that too, and YOU define
exactly how dups are defined. I can do a WebEx if you'd
like! Call me if you want.

There are a few odbc drivers out there for Act. The one I
looked at costs about $200. Act is really not odbc
compliant in itself (dbase, foxpro drivers) so you need a
good ODBC connector that knows how to put the data
together.

There is one at http://www.odbc-for-act.com/odbcact.asp
but I cannot vouch for it since I have been testing the
Scribe tool myself.

The biggest problem we've encountered migrating from Act
is an inability to get notes to migrate at all. Don't
think that ODBC can usually handle that. BUT, I haven't
looked at the product mentioned either ....
