Multiple Databases
Posted by news.demon.co.uk on March 7th, 2008

Afternoon all,

I have a few questions this afternoon as I am configuring CRM for the first
time.

We have 3 business divisions that need to use Dynamics CRM (one
IT/Telecommunications company, one mobile phone company selling to trade and
one mobile phone company selling contracts to consumers)

Each division needs seperate databases on the CRM platform with customised
leads/contact/account entities.

I have set up Business Units and Teams but when I customise the leads entity
it changes for everyone.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Regards

In v3, all business units see the same forms and views (there are javascript
customizations you can add to selectively show/hide things if you need to).

In v4 it's the same, but if you have the enterprise version, you could
create 3 separate organizations that could all have different
configurations - but they would be separate databases, so there would be no
sharing of contacts - not sure if that's a requirement or not.

Hi,

Excellent, we have the Enterprise Edition and we would not need sharing of
contacts over divisions. If we did contact details can be emailed and added
to the relevant divisions database.

Would you be able to tell me how I set this up?

Thanks

It's pretty easy to create new organizations - on the CRM server, open the
CRM deployment manager and add an Organization to your deployment. I would
suggest you check out the CRM implementation guide for some more detailed
info on planning. You can download it from microsoft's website.
