Outlook 2007 crashing
Posted by S Graves on August 1st, 2007

I have a few users on Outlook 2007 with the V3C CRM Client installed.
Outlook is crashing when they open e-mails tracked in CRM. It works fine for
the first 3 emails, but the 4th causes the crash.

We had this issue once before and removed the PDF add-in. I've confirmed
the PDF add-in has been removed and that the security update KB924085 is not
installed.

Has anyone else had this problem with Outlook 2007 and what did you do to
fix it?

Thanks for your help.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to hear what other users add to this post.

We have this problem all the time too with the exact same scenario. Outlook
2007 with V3C client. All the current CRM hotfixes have been applied. The
only difference is I can only open my "tracked" email once, on my second
attempt Outlook completely crashes.

Microsoft support has been ZERO help in resolving this. Yesterday we worked
with a moron from the office team that tried to convice us Dynamics CRM was a
3rd party product that they would not support. We were trasferred to the
office team after submitting several log files and traces to the CRM support
team before they gave up and passed it over to office team to figure out.
The recomendation from this group was to turn off the crm add in. Then they
proceeded to close the case as resolved.

We proceeded to contact our sales rep and are waiting for a call back.

This problem was addressed by a hotfix this past winter/spring. If you apply
the Update Rollup 2 it will include the fix for that. I blogged about the
rollup at
http://ts2community.com/blogs/larryl.../26/19617.aspx.

This hotfix did not fix the problem for us.

I've installed the hot fix on one of the machines it's happening on and it
still isn't working. Any other ideas?

i just tried it on one of the machines and it didn't fix the issue. Any
other ideas?

Also, I don't know if this makes a difference, but I'm using Windows XP
instead of Vista with Office 2007.

XP should be OK.

Did you load the hotfix or the Update Rollup?

I installed the Update Rollup 2. Is there a hot fix out there specifically
for this?

I feel your pain.

I can tell you that our experience has been other add-ins and CRM very often
don't play nicely together.

What I learnt is:

1. Just disabling them from Outlook isn't enough you need to remove them
from outlook.
2. You also need to go to add/remove and get them out of the system all
together.
3. The roll-ups will help.
4.As last step if the above doesn't work, remove and reinstall outlook,
which I had to do in one situation.
5. Also, make sure there aren't any old profiles on the machine that had
Outlook and add-ins, if so get rid of them also.

I'm still getting the error

I removed all of the Outlook add-ins from Outlook on this machine. Removed
and reinstalled outlook and the CRM client. The only other profiles are
admin and they don't have Outlook profiles set up.

Any other ideas?

The problem was so bad in Office 2003 I upgraded to Office 2007. Office 2007
fixed the problem for about 4 weeks. Now the problem is back and getting
progressively worse. Started happening once a week, then twice, now multiple
times a day.

I would agree there are some serious problems with the outlook client that
are still unresolved.

I've had a case open with the Microsoft support team for almost two months
on this. They even saw my earlier post on 8/1 and called me to get on my
machine. They looked around for more than hour, grabbed some logs and are
flat out stumped on this.

I contacted them yesterday to ask for an update -- they still do not have
one and are "still looking thru all the log files"

Is this part of the reason why the 4.0 release is always being delayed?

The only sure fire fix I have for this is I have to reboot my machine
multiple times a day to clear up the problems so outlook is functional again.
My favorite part is I use outlook in a cached mode so it trashes the .ost
files becauses it doesn't close properly when CRM crashes outlook -- so the
next time you open outlook it takes about 5 minutes because it will first
validate the .ost file.

When will we get some help????????????
