Outlook Client deletes GAL from Address Book Search List.
Posted by Phil Mitchell on July 14th, 2006

Installation of the Desktop Outlook Client using an Adminstrative install
(ie. from a network share published through Group Policy) causes the Global
Address list to disappear from the Address Book Search List.

You can see the effect if you open the Address Book and then select Tools |
Options. All of the CRM address book entries are present; but the Global
Address List is missing.

This happens even if the user performing the install has local admin rights
on the workstation. If the user performs the install from the CD this problem
does not occur.

The end result of this is that automatic lookups of email addresses fail to
find GAL entries and users can no longer see scheduling information in
calendar entries.

Users must manually add the GAL back into the address search list to fix the
problem.

(Note the problem is reproducible on a vanilla install of CRM 3.0 without
any configuration or customisation).

Is there a fix for this available, other than forcing users to manually fix
the address book search list (we have over 1000 users to deploy the client
to)?
