outlook HTTPS connection and outlook MSCRM client
Posted by missupport on October 13th, 2006

Hello,

We have installed on our laptop a MSCRM outlook client. Now many people take
this laptop home and check there email from home using there
internetconnection.
We have configured the outlook client so, that the people can connect to the
exchange server through https, for not using vpn. Now when we start up
outlook, he gives an error that the crm server could not be contacted (which
is ofcourse normal). But afterwards when we close outlook and start it up
again, he says that outlook is not closed properly and starts to rebuild the
messages. Is there a solution for or?

Thanx in advance.

You have to change the url of the server in the registery of each
laptop to

https://myserver:5555 and https://myserver:5555/mscrmdservices

I forgot to mench, MSCRM is only accessible from the internal network, not
from the internet.

Hi missupport,

I would recommend you put CRM into "Offline mode" before taking the laptop
offsite. That way, Outlook will start, and use the local CRM database.

When the laptop gets back to the office, you can put CRM back to online, and
it will synch the data.

Or, make sure the laptop has a VPN tunnel in place before you start CRM.

To my knowledge, CRM will not work with Outlook configured to use "RPC over
HTTPS".

Does that make sense?

Chris.
