Outlook issues, disabled happens often ?
Posted by CRM master on June 16th, 2008

Hi

We seem to have problems with Outlook 2003/2007 disables CRM from time to
time. It's an upgrade from CRM 3.0 to 4.0 and seems to become more often.

Does anyone else have this problem and do you know if any hotfixes (rollup)
is on it's way, there seems to be a need for one

Yes, our Outlook Client does the same. It appears to happen when the Outlook
Client has trouble communication with the CRM server. Our users also lose
all the Favorite folders that they setup each time this happens.

We have the problem with favorites too at some customers, this is really a
problem. Is there a hotfix or any workaround to get CRM to be stable ?

I haven't heard of any fixes yet. My hope is that Microsoft is aware of the
issue.

Unfortunately this has been an issue for years now. The CRM for Outlook
client at times can be very finicky and my experience is that it ranges from
"works perfectly" to Outlook completely crashing multiple times a day.
However, the average user generally will see a disabled toolbar sooner or
later and have to re-enable it.

There are multiple hotfixes and solutions, however in my experience, the
more "clean" the machine (no other toolbars, add-ins, etc) and better the
network connection the less problems there are.

CRM 4.0 for Outlook is better than 3.0, (diagnostic tool, runs in a seperate
thread, etc) but unfortunately there is more work to be done to make this
'acceptably' stable.

I have posted this as a product suggestion on the Microsft Dynamics connect
site ("make CRM for Outlook more stable") I encourage people to vote for it.
