Outlook Offline Error
Posted by Rebecca Halstead on September 18th, 2003

Hello,

We have a working CRM environment where we are able to access the CRM
application over the Internet and within our Outlook. However, when we
attempt to work Offline in Outlook we receive the following error message:

"An unknown error has occurred. Retry the action. If the problem persists,
contact your system administrator."

I reviewed the PartnerSource site and read the two articles. Unfortunately,
neither of those articles solved our problem.

One thing I noticed in the Installation Guide was a section about
configuring Users and Queues in SQL Server. When I click on "Properties" of
the MSCRMmergepublication and METABASE publication, I receive a message
saying that nicknames are not supported and to delete the SQL server
registration and register using the actual SQL server name. Could this have
anything to do with us not being able to work offline?

Any help is much appreciated,
Rebecca

Rebecca,

The error you are seeing in Enterprise Mgr isn't related. Basically, what
is happening there is that your EM registration is set to machine "(local)"
instead of the actual server name. As a reuslt, you can't do anything on
the Replication. If you re-register with the actual machine name, you will
be able to view/modify the replication settings.

I'd fix that first and then look at the replication settings to see if there
are any problems with it. Do any of the Outlook clients work or is this
happening with all of them? Are there any errors in either the event log or
the SQL log on the Client or the server? When exactly does the error occur?
