Outlook's CRM Email (Category / Sub Category)
Posted by Kevin Swarts on July 18th, 2007

We are in the process of moving from 1.2 to 3.0 and I've noticed a great
discrepancy between the two versions when it comes to the Outlook
integration. Previously the form for creating a new CRM email would be the
same web form that was used by the web interface, which included among other
things the category and sub category. Every one of our emails has a category,
in fact we had to manually adjust the aspx file on every client because the
subjects come from a pick list.

Is this a glaring hole in Microsoft's new CRM? Does anyone have a work-around?

Here is the MS take on categories in Outlook 2007

E-mail: Categories
Description: In previous versions of Outlook, categories could arrive
on incoming mail and were automatically reapplied on replies and
forwards to categorized mail. Categories are no longer assigned to
incoming mail, and are not automatically reassigned to replies and
forwards.

Reason for change: The new Colored Categories feature makes categories
visually louder. Most users do not want to receive categorized mail,
which they perceive as spam.
