- Picklist 'type ahead' feature
- Posted by Christie Peterson on December 16th, 2004
When a custom picklist is added to a form, the user has to scroll to select
the appropriate entry. My users are frustrated that this product does not
act in the same way other MS products do...begin typing in the field and the
picklist advances based on the letter(s) typed. I have one field that has
500 items in the list. Any suggestions? Thank you!

In CRM v1.x, the CRM application team developed its own "Picklist" control.
(Note: this was done for many reasons; all of them good at the time.)
Unfortunately, do to time constraints, this custom picklist control did not
support the "type as you go" feature.
In CRM 2005, the team updated the application to make use of the standard IE
"Select Box" control. This control has the "type as you go" feature built
in (at least for the first character anyway), which means this issue is
fixed in Microsoft CRM 2005.
My suggestions are:
1.) Wait for CRM 2005...
2.) Develop your own unsupported modification to /_common/styles/select.htc
that adds this functionality.

so does this mean we would have to pay for CRM 2005 or just get a free update
of this picklist feature which sorts thru's names that is pretty good in our
outdated Goldmine !

If you have software assurance, then upgrades are free (at least for the
software).
