Poor Design!
Posted by Brandon S. on September 17th, 2003

At least one feature of CRM was an extremely bad design! When I migrated GP
data into CRM, all account addresses were thrown into the More Addresses
tab. Because of this, our company is unable to sort/search through the
accounts with any account info except name. So, for example, we can't
sort/search by city, zip, etc. Nor can we assign territories based on zip
code because CRM doesn't "see" the zip code because it's in the More
Addresses tab.

This is EXTREMELY BAD DESIGN! And by the time MS gets around to fixing it,
I won't need the fix. But this major flaw alone would cause me to recommend
that anyone considering migrating and integrating GP data with CRM should
just hold off till this is fixed (if it is fixed)! To have any real
functionality with the software, I need to go through THOUSANDS of accounts
and copy and past address info between 2 windows. That would take countless
hours!

Brandon,

There are other options out there for integrating GP & CRM. Granted, they
cost money, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. How many
vendors even attempt to offer this type of functionality w/o additional
cost? I'm not defending the problem, just putting it into a different
perspective. The supplied GP/CRM is fairly basic. If it doesn't fit your
needs, then you need to look at other alternatives, that's all.

Why would not just perform and update and deleted
statement on the tables in the sql server?

You could do that, but there are a lot of GUID references in the tables. If
you don't get them set just right, the app won't work. The supplied
integration, the SDK & the 3rd party products all minimize this risk.
