Popup Alerts when using CRM within Outlook
Posted by Chris Morgan on September 10th, 2003

I realise that a lot of people will be using the Web client, but for those
of us that are lucking enough to be able to use the Outlook client it would
be nice (almost esential) to have the ability to have popup alerts to remind
you of a phone/appointment etc.

Does anyone know how this is possible in the current version, or if it is
expected in V1.2 later this year.

Kindest Regards
Chris

Outlook already has this. Via tasks or calendar. And this works with CRM too
(of course it will need to synch with outlook so outlook can give the pop
up).

Gray,

Thanks for the quick reply, but I am still none the wiser.

Lets say I I have created a phone call for tomorrow morning at 10am from
within the Outlook CRM client. It does not not appear to create a task.

Also what do you mean "synch", is this the part that I am missing. If it
is, how do I do this.

Thanks
Chris

Chris,

Part of the problem is understanding what items will "synch" between CRM and
Outlook. CRM Tasks & Appointments will synch with Outlook Tasks &
Appointments. Unfortunately the other actity types will not synch with
Outlook.

So, if you use the CRM Activity from Sales for Outllook to create a task or
appointment, then you should see this item immeidately in your Outlook
calendar or task list.

When Gary mentioned synching Outlook with CRM he was referring to going
offline. When you do this, contacts, tasks & appointments will be synched
up with Outlook. This will bring down entries that are created via the web
client and not directly from Outlook.

I recommend going through the offline/online cycle at least once a day, even
if you're connected to the network and never truly go "offline". This keeps
Outlook up to date and also guarantees that you get any customization
changes that might have been made to CRM.

HTH,
Matt
