Is there no way to associate a Contact Record with a Lead?

Thx

Unfortunately no. Essentially the idea behind a Lead is that is a name and
contact information that could potentially become a customer.

We suggest using Leads for only storing "suspects" which is someone who
either you have identified as a potential customer or someone who has
registered on your site or at an event.

Hate to disagree Sean, but CRM 1.2 definitely can associate a contact
with a lead. (Actually, it's more like associating a lead with a
contact, but...)

When you convert a lead, there is a field called "originatingleadid" on
the Contact that is populated with the lead that generated this
contact. You can click on it in the GUI to bring up the lead record.
This is a "one time" thing, in other words, you can't use it for
recurring marketing activities, e.g..

But yes, Leads are designed to handle the "first touches" of a suspect.
Web registration, trade show capture, CD of names all are good
candidates for leads...
