Prime Cascade Wrapper for CRM
Posted by Bob McMahon on May 30th, 2008

While troubleshooting a web service unavailable issue we were asked to
collect some data on SQL counters on CRMSQL.

While monitoring processes we noticed that a process called "Prime Cascade
Wrapper" runs for around 90 seconds every ten minutes. The execution of this
process creates a high number of DB locks.

The process, from what little we have been able to find, is used to
recompile CRM related stored procedures to keep them in cache.

I would like to get a little more information about this process. Why does
it run every ten minutes? What value does it provide to the end users? Can
the timing be adjusted?

We are simply looking for clues as to why we have so many "web service not
available" and "SQL not available" errors occuring throughout the day. We
have a fairly lightweight CRM implementation (< 100 users). CPU and disk
performance, when monitored, are barely on the chart.

Thanks, in advance, for the clarification.

Thanks for the helpful hints. The appropriate folks are reviewing the
information now.

However, the one specific think we were interested in was whether we could
turn Prime Cascade Wrapper off. We're wondering what benefit it provides. We
know the impact it can have on DB locks.

I'll post findings in this thread if we determine anything after reviewing
all the performance tuning information.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the reply.

I recommend you to have the hotfix or UR3 for your environment for
performance tuning then if the issue persists, you are able to try to stop
or set log interval for the job or open a case to have more detail
information.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind Regards,
Ken
