Problem installing CRM
Posted by Tony on September 9th, 2003

We are trying to install Microsoft CRM Server for testing
purposes on a Windows Server 2003 machine. I have install
all the needed software, including SQL Server SP3, IIS,
Indexing services, Message Queuing, etc. We are running
into some issues:

First, anyone know for sure that CRM Server will run on
Win Server 2003?

Prob 1: When I try to open http://localhost on the
server, it gives the following message: "The Microsoft
CRM server or security service has been disabled or has
not yet started..."

Prob 2: When I try to open the CRM deployment manager, I
get the following error: "Snap-in failed to initialize."

I've gone thru and made sure everything is installed and
running, and all "appears" ok. One item I noticed on this
forum: CRM only supports .NET framework 1.0, not 1.1,
which is what I have on Server 2003. Is this true? And if
so, can I uninstall 1.1 and install 1.0?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

hehe, this channel REALLY needs an FAQ, then we can just point to that
document.

sorry tony, its just that every question you have has been answered multiple
times on this NG......but for a quick run down.

-Win Server 2003 is NOT supported by CRM, and I have heard more problems
with that than solutions........in the next release it should be supported,
until then W2K will give you less issues.

-look at your IG, it shows how to restart the CRMsecurityservice

-deploy mngr,....how are you logged in? You need domain admin rights and a
CRM license for that user

-yes, I don't think 1.1 is fully suported,.......also I'm not sure if you
can downgrade to 1.1, check out the Add/Remove programs module.

2003 versions will be supported with v1.2, not the current
version of CRM

1.1 framework is OK on the clients but NOT on the server
where it must be v1.0. Haven't changed framework on 2003
server; just do know that for patches on 2000 servers give
you the option to upgrade the framework or not ...
