Problem Installing MSCRM 1.0
Posted by Helen Warn on December 3rd, 2003

Good day,

I have attempted to install MS CRM 1.0 several times, using the Organization
name "Adventure Works Cycle", and each time it fails with the message:

Failed to install Microsoft Customer Relationship Management Server.
Failed to provision your initial business.
Failed to create root business.
Catastrophic failure (8000FFFF).

After each attempted install, I remove all trace of the product following
the instructions in Techknowledge article 30877.

I am trying to install it on a Windows 2000 Server computer that is a member
of my domain. The domain controller is running Windows 2003 Server Standard.
I have ensured that a global catalog exists (Active Directory Sites and
Services -- Default-First-Site -- Servers -- NTDS Settings). It has a DNS
Server that is Active-Directory Integrated. Dynamic updates are set to
"Secure and non-secure".

I have tried installing it both under the Local System Account and a Domain
Administrator account (different from the one I have logged on with).

I've run out of solutions. Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

Cheers,

Helen

This error is typically related to a DNS issue. Try the following articles
to see if they can help.

Hi Matt,

I have read both of those articles, and made sure that my setup is compliant
with them. I assume setting the DNS property "Dynamic Updates" = Secure and
non-secure" is equivalent to setting them to "Yes". I have also searched the
archives of this group (and done fruitless Google searches) for posters
reporting the same problem, and done everything that they recommended, but I
still have the problem.

Do you know if this is a known issue, and if it will be addressed in Version
1.2?

thx

Helen

Helen,

I've never ran into this one myself, so I can't help any more than pointing
you to the info I've found on it. As for fixing it in v1.2, that only
remains to be seen. The install process is suppossed to be much friendlier,
but from other posts, it sounds like there are still problems with the
install.

This may require a support call to resolve.

Hi Helen

Have not seen that error, and it sounds like you have checked everything,
perhaps this can give you a clue, as to what the installation is doing when
it fails. If you use this swich it creates a log file of the setup
procedure.

setup.exe: "d:\setup.exe /LV C:\logfile.txt"

Regards

Thanks Rehan. I'll give it a try and see what it tells me.

Good tip for other setups!
