Problem Installing Second CRM Web Server
Posted by Wayne on September 20th, 2005

I'm trying to install a second web server by running the installation
program and pointing the database to the exisiting install. The
installation runs succesfully but I get the following error in the
Application log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSCRMSecurityService
Event Category: None
Event ID: 5916
Date: 9/15/2005
Time: 3:36:04 PM
User: N/A
Computer: DECRM
Description:
Error: Could not query account information. 1788 (0x000006FC)
Description:
The trust relationship between the primary domain and the trusted
domain
failed.

We only have one domain so I'm not sure what it means by primary and
trusted
domains.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Wayne Morledge

With 1.x i don't think this is possible

3.0 is suppose to address this issue.

I'm sure it is possible, I've read about lots of people that have this
working. We currently have the CRM web interface running on the same
server as the SQL data at one of our offices. We want to install a
seperate server at a different office that just runs the web interface
and uses the exisiting database. During the installation we get the
option to use an existing database but it won't work due to the error
message I posted. It just seems really strange that it talks about two
seperate domains when we only have 1.

Hi Wayne;

it is possible to do what you are trying to do, but I'm also confused by
your error message.

So the server you are installing the CRM (DECRM) on is on the same domain as
your existing CRM server? and you are logged in as a user who is a member
of the domain admins group? If both of these things are true, then I would
try un-joining the server from the domain (make it part of a workgroup),
reboot, then re-add it to the domain again and reboot one more time. Then
try the crm install again - it's possible that the computer account has
become out of sync with the AD record for it.

Thanks Dave, I'll try that and they are definitely both on the same
domain and I'm logged in as a member of domain admins.

I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks,
Wayne

OK, I've removed the machine from the domain, re-joined the machine to
the domain and reinstalled CRM but I get the same error :-(

Any more ideas?

I'm baffled Wayne. do you even have trusts in your domain?

Wayne,

I have 1.2 installed and I have done this, and it definitely worked OK. I
ran the install on the second machine, pointed it to the original database,
and it behaved as expected. The only thing I can think of is that I
installed the Service Pack Rollup. Have you done that?

Success!

The problem was due to their being an old trust still set up in AD
Trusts and Domains to a domain that hasn't existed for months. I had
to remove the trust and then reinstall CRM and it's now working.

Thanks for you help guys,
Wayne
