Procedure to migrate CRM 3.0 from SQL Server 2K to SQL Server 2005
Posted by Salvador on March 17th, 2007

Hi.
I'm running SBS 2003 Premium SP1 with all it contains like Exchange Sver
2003 SP2, Share point Services, etc, etc.

I as well have running in my server CRM 3.0 and have 3 clients, 2 with
Desktop client and 1 with LapTop Client.

I have recently received the SBS2003 Premium R2 DVD and I want to upgrade to
R2, upgrading to R2 implies to upgrade to SQL Svr 2005 so I want to know how
does this affect my current CRM 3.0 installation and the correct way to make
that migration.

Thanks

Hi,

I am going to jump on this bandwagon with a post, since I would also
appreciate any sage advice available.

Sincerely,

From CRM Support:

1. Backup Databases.
2. Uninstall CRM before upgrading the server.
3. Uninstall SQL 2000 and install SQL 2005 (Default instance) + Report
Service.
4. Attach CRM databases
5. Install CRM to existing SQL 2005 Databases (read CRM Installation on
SBS2003 R2 notes)
6. Install hotfix (KB923387) for CRM 3.0 on SQL 2005 Workgroup Ed.
7. Re-apply all DST 2007 patches CRM3.0-KB932984-Server-ENU.exe and
CRM3.0-KB925874-Server-ENU.exe

Be careful when you uninstall CRM as it does not uninstall everything. You
want to go back and check that it is really out of there.

So there is no upgrade path for SQL 2000>2005?

The earlier instructions were given for SBS2003 non-R2 to SBS2003 R2 Premium
Ed. upgrade, because SQL 2000 from SBS2003 is a Std. Ed. and you may not be
able to perform in-place upgrade to SQl 2005 Workgroup Ed. from SBS2003 R2.
Normally, if you keep the same SQL Editions, you can perform in-pplace
upgrade without much complication to uninstall CRM and SQL2000, and install
SQL2005 and CRM again.
