Quick Find search limitation
Posted by Ryan on October 3rd, 2007

Hello,

Is there any way to configure the Quick Find or edit your search string to
search two different fields for any of the words in the search string.

The request comes from a client who wishes to use the quick search to
retreive leads based on a surname and city. We are in the scottish highlands
and there are no shortage of macdonalds or macleods so they would like to
search by the city simulataneously!!

I have added city to the searchable fields, but the Quick Find can only
successfully return leads when I submit a searchstring for Lastname or City
(eg. enter "Macdonald" I get all the macdonalds, or just "Aberdeen" and I get
everyone from aberdeen). However, if I submit both into the string (ie.
"MacDonald Aberdeen") then nothing is returned.

Are there any special chars or ways to format the search string to allow
this functionality? I am aware of the Advanced Find, but it's not dynamic or
quick enough for the client to pull up customer details quickly.

Thanks, Ryan

Hi,

I recently worked with the C360 product Multi-Field Search. I guess this
tool will make your live easier.

Best regards,

I did have the same wish from my customer and I did the following: I created
a new field and put a code onSave function which writes the the contents of
the other fields to this new field. For example, if field1= club1 and
field2=club2, the new field contains club1-club2. So if you write
"club1-club2" to Quick find, the related entity's instance is displayed.

Hiding this new field may be useful.
