Dynamics 5.5 Client and Server Hardware Requirements
Posted: February 17, 2003

Overview
This document contains system requirements broken down by available
databases. These are minimum requirements designed to yield a functional
level of performance. Higher levels of performance can be gained with
hardware upgrades. A list of frequently asked questions is included.

a.. Pervasive.SQL 2000 requirements
b.. C-tree requirements
c.. FAQ's
Dynamics v5.5 for Pervasive.SQL 2000 Database
Database Requirements:

Pervasive.SQL 2000 SP 1, 2a, 3 or 4

In order to provide a superior product, we have decided to implement the
most recent version of Pervasive.SQL. Therefore, we will not be providing
support for Pervasive.SQL v7. Customers on the database enhancement program
will receive Pervasive.SQL 2000 rather than Pervasive.SQL v7.

Client/Process Server Requirements:
Operating System:
Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition (ME), Windows NT 4.0
Workstation edition (or higher) Sp 4, 5, or 6a, Windows 2000 Professional
edition (or higher) SP 1 or 2

Processor:
Pentium 166 Mhz Intel (or equivalent)

Hard Disk Space:
175 MB

RAM:
64 MB

Video:
SVGA (800x600) with 16-bit video driver

CD-ROM:
Optional

Network Card:
32-bit

Notes:

1.. An additional 35 MB of hard disk space is required if using Human
Resources with integration to Payroll.
2.. For Windows NT. Windows virtual memory must be in use. Use a paging
file of at least 40 MB.
3.. Intel Pentium processors are used in platform testing, however, the
compatibility is based on the speed of the processor not the type of
processor.
Server Requirements:
Operating System:
Windows NT 4.0 Server edition with Sp 4, 5, or 6a, Windows 2000 Server,
Advanced Server, or Datacenter edition Sp 1., NetWare 4.11, 4.2, 5.0, or
5.1.

Processor:
Pentium 200 Mhz Intel (or equivalent)

Hard Disk Space:
175 MB + space for accounting data

RAM:
Windows NT server: 128 MB for first 4 users, + 16 MB for each
additional user.

Netware server: 128 MB for first 5 users (See NetWare documentation
for memory requirements for systems with more than 5 users).

CD-ROM:
Optional

Notes:

1.. If you are using Windows 95 or NT clients, disable opportunistic
locking on the server (Windows server only).
2.. Fast SCSI hard disk controllers configured in RAID 0 give best
performance. RAID 1 or RAID 5 subsystems give best data integrity.
3.. If you are using NDS or Client 32, Dynamics client installation
disables opportunistic locking by setting Oplocks=No and Packet Burst=No in
the Network Properties dialog box for each client.
4.. An additional 35 MB of hard drive space is required if using Human
Resources with integration to Payroll.
5.. Dynamics will not be utilizing the multi-tasking functionality of
Advanced Server or the clustering functionality of DataCenter.
6.. Intel Pentium processors are used in platform testing, however, the
compatibility is based on the speed of the processor not the type of
processor.

FAQ's:
Q) What about technologies not mentioned in this document?
A) This document represents configurations tested by Microsoft Business
Solutions and supported by Microsoft Business Solutions Technical Support.
Use of technologies not specified in this document is not recommended and
will not be supported. Testing is ongoing, and as newer technologies become
supported, they will be added to this document.

Q) Earlier it is mentioned that I can increase performance through hardware
upgrades. What specifically should I look at upgrading to improve this?
A) The most important factors in overall performance are the amount of RAM
on the workstation, the amount of RAM on the server, and the speed of the
processor.

Q) I am on a Pervasive.SQL 2000 database. What network protocols are
supported?
A) This will vary a bit depending on your server. For a Windows NT server,
the TCP/IP and IPX/SPX protocols are supported. For a Netware 4.x server,
the IPX/SPX protocol is supported. Netware 5.x servers may use both the
IPX/SPX and TCP/IP protocols.
