- Reminders/escalation in CRM 3.0
- Posted by GreggH on December 1st, 2005
I can only get reminders for 'Tasks' that I set in CRM.
For dates that I define in Service Cases, Orders and Opportunities etc there
doesn't appear to be any auto reminder generation or escalation?
When a case needs to be followed up I'd like a reminder
When an opportunity reaches it's expected close date I'd like a reminder etc
You have to manually go back to each and scan the dates to see if any are
overdue.
Any ideas?
Cheers

This is a good use of the new time-based workflow capabilities in 3.0. Create
a rule for a case that checks the follow up date and sends an email to the
owner, or a rule for an opportunity that checks the expected close date and
sends an email, etc. I haven't created rules like this yet, but from the
demos at the partner events, I believe this is what you can do in workflow
now. HTH.

Thanks Matt. I thought that workflow rules would be the answer however I
haven't worked through them yet to see the full potential. I'm hoping though
that there are more alternatives than just auto sending emails at given
conditions. ie: I'd rather have a popup reminder than clog the already full
email system with system generated emails.... I will check this out further
and see what flexibility (if any) there is...
Thanks

Gregg/Matt,
Unfortunately, while improved, CRM 3.0 workflow still cannot handle
what you describe. The closest it can come is to set up a workflow
that does something AFTER the close date has been reached (Est Close
Date <= execution date). You could create an Advanced Find view that
returns "Opportunities expiring within 7 days", e.g., and then run a
manual workflow rule from the grid that will create tasks. HTH,
Dave
