I'm trying to remove the personalize workplace link on the workplace.

Is this possible?

I'm looking at the exported customization.xml file and it's not all that
obvious where this can be edited out

Any ideas?

Try exporting only the isv.config in the customization export. This is the
part which should contain that link.
