Removing a previous install of Sales for Outlook
Posted by Alex Polkhovsky on August 20th, 2003

I have a machine that had Sales for Outlook installed on it while it
was joined to a different domain and connected to a different CRM
server.

Now, it's in my domain and I want to set it up with Sales for Outlook
again.

I can't un-install it using Add/Remove programs - it gives me an error
that this operation is only valid for installed products.

I can't just run an install of it because the install program tells me
that there is already Sales for Outlook installed for another user.

I tried removing the instance of SQL server and all related folders.
The setup will run, install SQL back, and then stop with the message
about installation for another user.

Besides probably removing Office and manually deleting SFO files, are
there any other options?

Did you try removing and recreating the user profile?

It's not an option to recreate it. I can't re-create that profile
because the domain it belonged to doesn't exist anymore. I did
remove it, though.

Deleting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSCRM
and running the setup again did the trick for me.

Yes, logging in as the original user works as well.
My assumption was that since the systems were
"joined to a different domain and connected to a different CRM server"
then logging in as the user on the original domain was not an option.
