Renaming a CRM server
Posted by Jakob on June 2nd, 2004

I use Win2003 SBS. It's current name is Win2003SBS. I
would like to change it's name to CRM.

I tried to change the name via System -> Properties ->
Computer Name.

After reboot I went to the CRM web page: http://localhost
and got the message that the system could not start.

Also, the MS CRM Deployment Manager failed to start.
However, not as gracefully... It just threw an
exception....

So, obviously I need to tell MS CRM that my computer name
is changed.... But where...

Thanks,

- Jakob

Hi

TBH i dont think you can rename a CRM server. The only was to do this is
backup the databases, uninstall CRM, rename server, reinstall CRM and
restore the databases. But i may be wrong

If it is pheasible, then you should at least need to take into account DNS
etc ...... I would have avoided being in a position of having to rename the
server as much as possible.

Having said that, uninstalling doesnt remove the sql db just the application
tier - so shouldn't be THAT much hassle....
