Reports Error
Posted by jhlong on November 23rd, 2006

I am getting an error when trying to access reports and have tried everything
that I can think of with no luck. I have CRM deployed in a four server
deployment. Here are the servers:

1 – Win. 2003 SP1 Domain Controller (AD)
2 – Win. 2003 SP1 (Exchange 2003)
3 – Win. 2003 SP1 (SQL 2005 SP1 & Reporting Services)
4 – Win. 2003 SP1 (CRM 3.0)

If I log into CRM from the CRM server under the Administrator credentials I
can access the reports and they work fine. But if I log into CRM from the CRM
server under another user then I get the error “An error has occurred. For
more information, contact your system administrator.” I get this same error
when trying to access the reports from a workstation no matter whom I am
logged in as.

I have looked through everything that has been posted here about others
having this issue and have not been able to find a resolution. If anyone has
been able to identify what the cause of this problem is I would appreciate
any help.

It appears you have the dreaded Trusted For Delegationm [TFD] issue.
You can read this white paper..http://www.triventure.com/CRM3/RSSetupTfD.doc
and see if that helps.

Otherwise, I'd recommend you contact MBS support for help, it's worth the
price of the ticket. it may turn out that TFD will not work in your
environment and you have to use stored credentials in your SRS data source,
but I would pursue the alternatives with MBS first.

Thank you for the reply. I have gone completely through and checked the
trusts and everything appears to be set up correctly. I have made sure that
the CRM server is set as trust to the SQL server. I have also made sure that
the users are members of the CRM group that can access the reports.

This does not make sense to me as everything looks to be configured
correctly. One thing to note is that I can only access the reports when
logged into CRM as administrator on the CRM server. If I log into CRM as
administrator from a workstation I am not able to access the reports. I would
appreciate any other help or suggestions.

John;

we've had a number of customers who, after weeks of troubleshooting with MBS
support, have simply been unable to make this work as documented, so don't
feel bad. The only solution was to use 'credentials stored securely in the
report server' on the SRS data source (rather than the 'windows integrated
security')
