- Sales for Outlook Client failed install
- Posted by CajunTank on February 8th, 2005
I have a newly installed CRM installation and no problems what so ever
tilltrying the SFO install. Web client works great, but running into issues
with SFO when it gets to the point of "creating and configuring databases"
then bombs saying " installation ended prematurely because of an error" then
"setup has failed because of an error. setup was unable to install the .msi
for Microsoft CRM sales for Outlook." I have searched through the forum
trying several ideas, but still nothing. Have tried on two different
workstation and the same problem arises. I am able to install MSDE alone no
problem, it look like it creates the databse file, but when I open Outlook
(2003), it cannot install CRM folders. It's like it get's to just about the
end of the install and bombs one something, just don't know what. Please Help.
Thanks.

What version Office? And, does it have the latest & greatest patches and
service packs?

On one machine (the main one I'm trying) I have Win2K SP4 and Office 2003 SP1.
The other machine I have XP SP2 (firewall is off) and Office XP Pro SP3
All other updates from Microsoft for OS and IE are done as well.

Nuts, there's no commonality.
On both, did the original SFO installation go through OK, or are you getting
this problem when trying to go offline?
Also, do they have local admin rights?

These are both new client installs, both had the same errors occur. So this
is the original install, and yes, the users logging into the domain are
members of the local administrator group to the pc (also licensed users in
CRM).

Now I'm grasping at straws.
I'd start looking at Outlook. clear the forms cache, increase it to 2X what
it is now. If that doesn't work, remove then re-add the addin.
After that, I don't know.

Like many of you on this subject, I could not get past the error and tried
pretty much everything and more. Ultimately to resolve the issue, due to
certain time constraints, I reimaged the machine and SFO installed
successfully. I was fully confident that this would work, but it is extremely
last measure. This leads me to believe, after the fact, that the user's
profile may have been corrupt. If any of your experience this error again,
try backing up the user's files, log into the machine as an administrator,
then log back into the machine as that user to have the profile recreated,
and attempt to install SFO.
