Sales for Outlook Go Offline Issue - Cannot Go Offline due to erro
Posted by Mark Uy on October 5th, 2004

I would just like to know if anyone has received this popup error for all
their SFO clients when trying to go offline:

An unknown error has occurred. If the problem persists, contact
your system administrator.

This error happens on all SFO clients when attempting to go offline. There
is no error log. There is no error within the SFO section within outlook
even when I turn the web.config file on the client machine on. The
environments are as follows:

Client 1:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional version 2002 SP 1
Microsoft Outlook 2000 SP-3
Client 2:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional version 2002 SP 1
Microsoft Outlook 2000 SP-3
Client 3:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional version 2002 SP 2
Microsoft Outlook 2003
Client 4:
Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional version 2002 SP 2
Microsoft Outlook 2000 SR-1

I am led to believe that this is a server side error since the error exists
for all 4 clients. Fortunately, the clients are able to connect to the MSCRM
server when in Online Mode and when using the Web Interface. I am not a SQL
Administrator so I am not sure how to check if the SQL databases, the
subscriptions, and the replications are working properly.

I would recommend you re-read the implementation guide and follow its steps
for configuring crm exactly. The guide takes you through steps to make sure
CRM and SQL are configured properly.
You do not have to be a SQL admin to follow them.

I read John's response ... If you have not successfully gone offline with ANY
clients then I would recommend disabling publishing on your database server
and re-adding it via the Deployment Manager. History has shown with our
clients that this sort of issues is usually related to corrupt information in
the MSCRMDistribution database.

NOTE: ONLY disable publishing if no other SQL databases in your SQL
environment require this service.

It is possible that your MSDE database on your client cannot find it's
own database. Look in the right corner to see if your MSDE is running.
If not your SFO cannot fill the database so you get an error.

Uninstall SFO and MSDE and reinstall them it could help
